Anti-Crypto Senator Warren Calls for Probe Into TRUMP Meme Coins

Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren has urged regulators to launch an investigation into the TRUMP and MELANIA meme coins, saying that these coins enriched the US President at the expense of investors. Warren’s remarks come after TRUMP and MELANIA meme coins outperformed the rest of the cryptocurrency market last week after posting massive gains . Senator Warren Airs Concerns About Trump Meme Coins In a letter sent to the US Congress, Senator Warren poked holes into the tokenomics of the TRUMP meme coin. According to the senator, the Trump family owned 80% of the token supply, with investors being left with only 20%. “The launch has massively enriched Trump personally, enabled a mechanism for the crypto industry to funnel cash to him, and created a volatile financial asset that allows anyone in the world to financially speculate on Trump’s political fortunes,” she stated. The senator also expressed concerns about meme coins’ volatility, saying they were highly speculative assets. Per the letter, the risky nature of these coins could cause harm to the same people that President Trump intended to help. Senator Warren added that these coins had “no tangible utility” and were “about as risky as playing a casino slot machine.” “These coins do not create new faster, cheaper, and safer payments rails. These coins do not help people borrow more affordably. They do not improve the financial system in any way for consumers,” she added. Senator Warren further noted that some crypto community members had expressed their concerns about these meme coins. As ZyCrypto earlier reported, Messari co-founder Ryan Selkis had criticized these tokens , saying that they cost Trump a lot of money and goodwill. The legislator is now seeking input from various US regulatory bodies, including the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), regarding the regulatory framework around these coins. Ivanka Trump Slams Scam Meme Coin President Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, has called out a scam meme coin project that used her name and brand to dupe investors. In an X post, Ivanka clarified that she was not involved in the token and was “pursuing measures” against the token’s creators. “To be clear: I have no involvement with this coin. This fake coin risks deceiving consumers and defrauding them of their hard-earned money, and the unauthorized use of my name and likeness is a violation of my rights,” she said .
