Robinhood Chief Legal Officer Dan Gallagher doesn't want SEC chair job: reports

Robinhood Markets ( NASDAQ: HOOD ) chief legal officer Dan Gallagher said Friday he isn’t interested in being the next chair of the US Securities and Exchange Commission, according to media reports. “It is always an honor to have your name in the mix for an incredibly important job like SEC Chairman,” Gallagher reportedly said in a statement. “However, I have made it clear that I do not wish to be considered for this position.” Gallagher was a commissioner at the regulator between 2011 and 2015 and had been suggested as a possible successor to Chair Gary Gensler, who has said he will resign from the job in January. “I am committed to Robinhood and our millions of customers who represent the new generation of retail investors,” Gallagher was quoted as saying in the statement. “I feel I can make tremendous progress to democratize finance in my current role, and I will remain a vocal and consistent advocate for positive change in our markets.” Axios reported that other candidates to lead the SEC include former SEC Chair Paul Atkins, former SEC general counsel Robert Stebbins, and former acting Comptroller of the Currency Brian Bush. Meanwhile, Democratic SEC Commissioner Jaime Lizárraga said Friday that he would step down from the post on Jan. 17.
