FBI Steps Into Bybit Hack in Which $1.5 Billion Worth of Ethereum Was Stolen! Announced the Perpetrator, Made a Critical Call!

Hacking incidents are never-ending in the cryptocurrency market, and the latest victim of hackers was the leading crypto exchange Bybit. While $1.5 billion worth of Ethereum (ETH) was stolen from Bybit, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said in a statement that North Korea was responsible for the ByBit hack. The FBI said North Korea has named its malicious cyberattacks “TraderTraitor,” according to Reuters. The FBI has asked cryptocurrency node operators, exchanges, and service providers to block transactions related to the $1.5 billion Bybit hack, saying the hacker is expected to launder his assets and eventually convert them into fiat money. At this point, the FBI has shared 51 Ethereum addresses that are either operated by TraderTraitor or have close connections to it so that industry players can block or avoid interaction with them. “TraderTraitor attackers are advancing rapidly and have converted some of the stolen assets into Bitcoin and other altcoins, distributing them across thousands of addresses across multiple blockchains. These assets are expected to be further laundered and eventually converted into fiat money.” Blockchain analytics firm Elliptic shared 11,084 crypto wallet addresses suspected to be linked to the Bybit attack, while Chainalysis said hackers converted some of the stolen Ethereum into Bitcoin. *This is not investment advice.
