While Bitcoin and altcoins have struggled to recover in recent days, a survey by Coinbase revealed that institutional investors are planning to increase their crypto allocations. According to a joint survey by Coinbase and EY-Parthenon, 83% of institutional investors surveyed said they are already invested in cryptocurrencies and plan to increase their crypto allocations in 2025. Nearly three-quarters of institutional respondents said they hold cryptocurrencies other than BTC. According to the survey results, the most popular altcoins among institutional investors, apart from Bitcoin, were Ethereum (ETH), XRP and Solana (SOL). XRP took 34% and Solana 30% of investors' portfolios. Respondents indicated that they plan to invest up to 5% of their portfolio in cryptocurrencies, while 80% expect prices to rise. While 60% of investors stated that they prefer to invest in Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies through funds such as ETFs, 74% of investors stated that they also invest in altcoins other than Bitcoin and Ethereum. The majority of institutional investors emphasized the importance of portfolio diversification and stated that they prefer to own at least one different cryptocurrency in addition to traditional assets. According to the survey results, it was revealed that institutions are becoming increasingly interested in the DeFi sector, and “Institutions are interested in DeFi for various reasons, and the most interesting use cases are derivatives, staking, and lending.
