Leading cryptocurrency exchange Kraken has marked a major milestone in its strategy to expand into Europe by obtaining a Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID) license. Kraken Receives MiFID License, Paving the Way for EU Crypto Derivatives Expansion The license, obtained through the acquisition of a Cypriot investment firm regulated by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), will allow Kraken to offer crypto derivatives products across the 27-country European Union. Kraken’s entry into the EU derivatives market was made possible by its acquisition of the Cypriot firm, granting the exchange the necessary regulatory approval under MiFID. The move positions Kraken alongside other major players in the European crypto space, such as Bitstamp and FTX EU. “Over the coming months, we will be working to meet the requirements to go live and launch products in local EU markets,” Kraken said in a blog post, signaling that it is ready to expand its product offerings to European merchants. This latest development is in line with Kraken's broader strategy to strengthen its presence in Europe.
