Trump Declares U.S. 'Undisputed Bitcoin Superpower' at New York Summit, Pushes for Stablecoin Legislation

President Donald Trump, in a pre-recorded video address at the Digital Asset Summit in New York, declared his intention to position the United States as the 'undisputed Bitcoin superpower and crypto capital of the world.' Trump emphasized ending the regulatory war on crypto and Bitcoin initiated by the previous administration, calling for Congress to pass legislation creating simple, common-sense rules for stablecoins and market structure. Trump highlighted the creation of the U.S. Strategic Bitcoin Reserve through an executive order signed on March 6, aiming to maximize the value of government-held assets rather than selling them off at a fraction of their long-term value. He criticized former President Joe Biden's approach to Bitcoin, suggesting it led to selling assets at undervalued prices. Efforts are underway in Congress, with Sen. Cynthia Lummis introducing the BITCOIN Act, which could allow the government to acquire up to $80 billion worth of Bitcoin, and Rep. Byron Donalds proposing legislation to authorize the U.S. Treasury Secretary and Commerce Secretary to add Bitcoin to a federal reserve if such acquisitions were 'budget neutral.'
