Texas Lt. Gov. Makes Bitcoin Reserve a 2025 Priority

Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick has named a Bitcoin Reserve a top priority for 2025 , despite previously criticizing the state’s crypto mining industry. Other initiatives on his agenda include “Texas D.O.G.E.” and upgrades to the electrical grid, which could benefit Bitcoin miners. Texas has been at the forefront of state-level Bitcoin reserves , with around 15 states currently working on similar legislation. Although national efforts have faced setbacks, Patrick has reaffirmed Texas’ commitment by listing the Bitcoin Reserve as a key focus for the upcoming legislative session. The push for a national Bitcoin Reserve gained momentum in recent months, but President Trump’s executive order to create a “digital stockpile” was not Bitcoin-specific and did not involve the Federal Reserve. Some fear this move could weaken the drive for a national Bitcoin Reserve, but Texas is determined to move forward. Patrick announced 25 bills as top priorities, with another 15 to follow. While not all directly impact the crypto sector, the Bitcoin Reserve and Texas D.O.G.E. proposals stand out. Patrick addressed concerns that certain initiatives were missing, stating that many more bills will pass and contribute to the state’s economy. Several other high-priority bills will indirectly support the Bitcoin industry, particularly through crypto mining. Texas has become a major hub for mining, attracting several companies in the past year. Investments in energy infrastructure, such as power grid improvements, will likely benefit the sector. Crypto advocate Mario Nawfal reacted to the news, emphasizing the significance of a state holding Bitcoin on its balance sheet. "A US state moving to hold BTC ? That’s next-level adoption," he said. However, Patrick’s support for Bitcoin is a recent development. He has held office for a decade without making strong pro-crypto statements and even criticized the mining industry last year. While listing the Bitcoin Reserve as a priority is a step forward, the bill still needs to pass before Texas officially starts accumulating Bitcoin.
