Real-world assets (RWAs) have recently recorded massive growth, fuelled by an increase in Total Value Locked (TVL) on Ethena USDtb and BlackRock’s BUIDL. According to data from DeFiLlama, the niche is still ranking in the $10 billion category. USDtb Records Fastest Growth Amongst RWAs Just last month, the RWA tokenization market hit a record TVL of $17.1 billion , making a sharp recovery. Maker, BlackRock’s BUIDL, and Ethena’s USDtb each account for more than $1 billion of the current TVL. Despite all three RWA solutions contributing significantly to the overall growth, USDtb has been the fastest growing. Over the last month, it has surged by more than 1,000% in TVL. Noteworthy, USDtb, which is backed by tokenized BlackRock money-market fund shares, is a clear contrast to Ethena’s USDe. The latter utilizes crypto-assets and perpetual futures strategies for crypto-driven yields. The growth of the RWAs sector reflects the increasing demand from investors for safer investment options. This has been the market’s outlook since FTX and other top crypto exchanges collapsed three years ago. Treasury-backed Tokens are Dominating Apart from USDtb and BUIDL, treasury-backed tokens are equally hitting milestones. This category reached a record of $4.2 billion in market capitalization in the first quarter of the year. This time around, it attributed its win to the growth of several tokenization solutions, including Ondo Finance’s OUSG and USDY tokens, BlackRock and Securitize’s BUIDL, Franklin Templeton’s BENJI, and Superstate’s USTB. Even data aggregator RWA.xyz attests that these treasury-backed tokens have secured a significant portion of the RWA market. Tokenized commodities are pegged at $1.26 billion of its sub-categories, with Paxos Gold holding the fortè with a TVL of more than $500 million. RWA Tokenization Projected to Reach $600 Bln by 2030 Market observers believe there is a huge prospect for the RWAs tokenization sector. Last year, Boston Consulting Group (BCG), in collaboration with Aptos Labs and Invesco, noted that RWA tokenization can capture 1% of the global mutual fund and Exchange-traded Fund (ETF) market by 2030. Notably, this equates to reaching $600 billion by the projected period. The wave of on-chain innovations, including stablecoins and Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), inclining investors and organizations towards tokenized assets.
