Sam Bankman-Fried Transferred After Tucker Carlson Interview

Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), the former CEO of the collapsed crypto exchange FTX, has been moved to a federal transit facility. This happened weeks after he gave an unauthorized video interview with Tucker Carlson from jail in Brooklyn. Earlier today, the Federal Bureau of Prisons updated its website, confirming that Bankman-Fried was transferred to the Oklahoma City Federal Transfer Center. This is part of the process of moving him to a permanent prison, where he will serve his 24-year sentence for fraud. His expected release date is set for November 17, 2044. SBF Moved to Federal Transfer Prison According to the Wall Street Journal, prison officials in the New York facility woke Bankman-Fried up around 3 a.m. on Wednesday but did not tell him where he was going. The convicted FTX CEO is now held at the Oklahoma City facility, a central hub in the U.S. federal prison system. This facility temporarily holds inmates before they are sent to their final prison locations. The prison is also part of a transportation network known as Con Air, which moves prisoners across the country. Sam Bankman-Fried Claims Innocence in Prison Interview, Crisis Manager Quits Before his transfer, Bankman-Fried made another attempt to clear his name. In his interview with Tucker Carlson, he insisted he had been wrongfully convicted. This interview was reportedly part of a broader effort by his family to seek clemency for him, especially as presidential pardons gain attention . Bankman-Fried’s crisis manager, Mark Botnick, resigned after the interview when prison officials confirmed that the interview was not approved. Notably, Botnick has handled SBF’s crisis management since FTX collapsed in November 2022. Meanwhile, this was not the first time SBF spoke publicly from prison. In February, he gave an interview to the New York Sun, where he discussed his shift toward conservative politics. Some people think he is trying to get on President Donald Trump’s side since the president had spoken against unfair treatment in politics. Bankman-Fried also claimed FTX was never truly bankrupt, and the exchange would have had $100 billion in assets today, far more than its $15 billion in debts. SBF’s Final Destination Still Uncertain Bankman-Fried’s final prison location has not yet been confirmed despite his transfer. When he was sentenced, Judge Lewis Kaplan recommended that he serve his time at a lower-security prison in California. This would place him closer to his parents, who live near Stanford University. Bankman-Fried has been in Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center since August 2023, but this was never meant to be his final prison. For now, Bankman-Fried remains in transit. His fall from being a crypto billionaire to a prisoner continues, with little chance of reversing his fate.
