Google I/O 2025: New AI Tools, Ultra Plan & Gemini Upgrades

On May 20, at the Google I/O 2025 conference, Google unveiled a number of new AI products, including an image generator, video generator, movie generator, Google Meet translator, and others. $249.99 for Google AI Ultra Google has launched a new AI Ultra plan for $249.99 per month. It provides the ”highest level of access” to Google's AI applications and services. The new Google Veo 3 video generator, Flow movie-making app, and powerful Gemini 2.5 Pro Deep Think model (which hasn't launched yet) are available in the subscription. Other Google AI Ultra options: Increased limits on the NotebookLM and Whisk platform; Access to the Gemini chatbot in Chrome; Agent tools based on Project Mariner technology; YouTube Premium; And 30 TB of storage on Google Drive, Google Photos, and Gmail. One of the agent tools is Agent Mode. It can browse the web, conduct research, and integrate with Google apps to perform certain tasks. Its launch is expected ”in the near future.” ”Ultra is a program for those who want to be on the cutting edge of artificial intelligencefrom Google,” said Josh Woodward, vice president of Google Labs and Gemini. The AI Ultra subscription is only available in the U.S. for now. Google has joined the growing list of companies launching expensive plans. In December 2024, OpenAI released ChatGPT Pro for $200 per month. In April, AI startup Anthropic set a similar price tag for Max. Veo 3 – Video with Sound Veo 3 is a new AI model for generating video and sounds, such as effects, noise, and dialogues. Google emphasized the product's superiority over the previous Veo 2 version in terms of the quality of work created. ”For the first time, we're coming out of an era of silence in video creation. [You can give Veo 3] a prompt to characterize characters and environments and offer dialogue describing how it should sound said Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis. The neural network is available in the Gemini app for Google AI Ultra plan subscribers. The arrival of Veo 3 was likely enabled by DeepMind's work in related fields. Last June, Google's AI division began developing artificial intelligence-based technology for generating video soundtracks. Improvements have also been presented for Veo 2—it can now be provided with images of characters, scenes, objects, and styles to improve consistency. It can understand camera movements, add or remove objects from a clip, and expand the frames of clips—for example, turning vertical video into horizontal video. The new Veo 2 features will be available on the Vertex AI platform. Imagen 4 is an Image Generator Google has brought to market a new AI model for image generation — Imagen 4. It is able to visualize fine details such as fabrics, water droplets, and animal fur, and work with photorealistic and abstract styles. The neural network delivers higher quality results than Imagen 3 and creates illustrations with different aspect ratios and resolutions up to 2K. ”We've also paid a lot of attention to improving text generation and typography, so the model is great for creating slides, invitations, or any other materials where you need to combine images and text,” Woodward emphasized. The tool is available in the Gemini app, Google Whisk and Vertex AI platforms, as well as Google Slides, Vids, Docs, and other Google Workspace products. Flow – Movie Generator At Google I/O 2025, the company announced Flow, a new AI model for movie creation. It integrates three tools: Veo for video creation; Imagen for image generation; Gemini for working with text and prompts. Flow allows you to import characters or scenes or create these elements right inside the tool. It offers camera control functions for changing camera angle or perspective, a scene builder, and ways to manage assets. In addition, Google is launching Flow TV, a feed of video clips and content with the exact prompts used to create them. The service will make it possible to understand the creative process of the authors. Smartglasses Google is getting involved in the smartglasses race by announcing a partnership with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker to create a gadget based on Android XR. Android XR is a platform launched jointly with Qualcomm and Samsung last year to power augmented reality (XR) devices. The company said it has deepened its partnership with Samsung to develop XR glasses. Both companies are developing the software and hardware platform. At the conference, Google showed a concept of Android XR-based glasses with Gemini artificial intelligence. They are equipped with a camera, microphone, speakers, and a display for viewing notifications. Google plans to commit up to $150 million to co-develop AI glasses with Warby Parker. $75 million has already been allocated. Gemini Integration into Chrome Google has announced the launch of Gemini integration in Chrome. Users will have access to an AI assistant to work in the browser. It will be able to understand the context of the page and perform different tasks. Gemini in Chrome is accessible via text input and voice command. You can start communicating with the AI assistant by clicking on the Gemini icon in the top right corner of the Chrome window. Example of work: a user can open a page with a banana bread recipe and ask Gemini to make it gluten-free. Or use the digital assistant to select a plant for a bedroom depending on the lighting conditions. In the future, Gemini will be able to work with multiple tabs at once, which will allow you to compare two similar products from different pages or online stores. Translator in Google Meet Google has added real-time speech translation to Google Meet. The company uses a large language audio model from DeepMind to provide a natural conversation with an interlocutor in another language. Voice, intonation, and facial expression are preserved during translation. The new feature has many applications. For example, English-speaking grandchildren will be able to communicate with Spanish-speaking grandparents, as will employees of a large company from different regions. Google claims there is very little delay during translation, allowing conversations with multiple people at once. During a conversation, the transmission of the interlocutor's original speech is preserved. The translation is overlaid. Gemini Chatbot Improvements Google has announced several updates to the Gemini chatbot. Among them: Wider availability of multimodal capabilities; Updated AI models; Transfer video from your camera or smartphone screen and have verbal conversations in parallel; Navigate through Google Maps, create events in Google Calendar, and create to-do lists in Google Tasks. At the conference, Google announced that Gemini now has 400 million monthly active users. Google also updated Deep Research, a tool for generating detailed research reports. Users can upload PDFs and images, and the service will match them with publicly available information to provide more personalized information. Drive and Gmail could be integrated into Deep Research in the future. Project Mariner – AI Agent for Web Browsing Google has opened the experimental AI agent Project Mariner for US users with a Google AI Ultra subscription. The principle of its work has also been updated — now the assistant can perform up to 10 tasks simultaneously. Among examples of Project Mariner's capabilities: the assistant is able to buy tickets to a baseball game or groceries online. Users communicate with the agent, and the agent visits the sites and performs the necessary actions. They can go about their business while the assistant completes tasks in the background. Other Solutions Apart from the above-mentioned products, Google has also introduced many others. Among them: Gemma 3n — an AI model for a ”smooth” experience on phones, laptops, and tablets, capable of interacting with audio, text, images, and video; Stitch — a tool to assist in frontend development of web and mobile apps; it is capable of creating the necessary UI elements and code; Adding video reviews to NotebookLM — users will be able to turn multimedia materials into easy-to-understand visual presentations; New features in Google Search AI for online shoppers, including a visual dashboard, personalized price notifications, and virtual fitting; SynthID Detector—able to determine if an image, video, audio, or piece of text was created using the company's AI models; Improved Deep Think reasoning mode for the flagship Gemini 2.5 Pro model; New AI features in Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Vids to clean up messages, compose personalized emails, or create and edit content.
