Crypto wallet provider MetaMask has announced that it has added native support for the Solana network to its popular web browser plugin. MetaMask Adds Native Solana Support to Browser Extension With this move, users will now be able to buy and sell Solana-based tokens via the MetaMask Extension, perform swaps, and have direct access to decentralized applications (dApps) in the Solana ecosystem. The company also announced that it will integrate Solana support into the mobile app in the coming weeks. MetaMask previously provided access to networks other than Ethereum through plugins called “Snaps,” but this new update is the first to integrate the Solana network directly into MetaMask’s main interface. “Solana is just the beginning,” MetaMask said, adding that “we aim to add support for more non-EVM networks in the coming months, eliminating the hassle of users having to juggle multiple wallets.” Bitcoin Support Also On The Way In a statement made in February, it was stated that MetaMask would offer support not only for Solana but also for the Bitcoin network in the third quarter of 2025. These steps are seen as part of the platform’s strategy to expand multi-blockchain support. With an estimated 100 million annual users, MetaMask stands out as one of the world's largest non-custodial crypto wallets. MetaMask has long been speculated about the possibility of launching its own crypto token. Joseph Lubin, CEO of parent company Consensys, stated that the MetaMask token could contribute to making the platform more decentralized in 2022. MetaMask co-founder Dan Finlay said on the Crypto Beat Podcast earlier this month that the token launch was still “uncertain,” but acknowledged that the new regulatory environment for crypto in the U.S. offers more leeway for token launches. In February, the parties in an ongoing enforcement case between MetaMask and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced that they had reached a settlement. This development comes after other similar lawsuits against major crypto companies such as Coinbase and Kraken were dropped. MetaMask’s integration with Solana is considered an important step towards simplifying the user experience across different blockchains. *This is not investment advice.
